Homestead Exemptions, All 50 States:
Qualification for a homestead exemption is based on state law.
Federal law preempts state law by imposing a maximum value which may be
claimed as exempt, and state laws which establish a lower limit
establish the maximum value. If you have questions about your state's
homestead exemption value, contact a local attorney who is qualified to
render legal advice. Legal advice must be provided by a qualified attorney, duly licensed by
the State Bar, who is familiar with the unique history and circumstance
of an individual receiving advice. Anything short of full disclosure
based on personal knowledge is not prudent.
