Rules Of Law & Bankruptcy Trustees In Federal Bankruptcy

Help Finding Lawyers and Attorney Fee Guidelines

Private individuals or corporations may be appointed as assistants to the U.S. Bankruptcy Trustee. These individuals and organizations act in the stead of the sole U.S. Trustee, and comprise an extensive network of local trustees. All cases filed under Chapter 7 liquidation, or Chapter 13 reorganization, must be assigned a trustee according to federal law. Further, in addition to Code requirements, local rules also regulate trustee procedures and permissible actions. The United States Trustee serves under authority granted to the U.S. Department of Justice.
