The Bankruptcy Petition Form Initiates Cases
Official petition forms contain the initial request for bankruptcy relief.
Once filed by debtors, with the clerk of a the U.S. Bankruptcy Court,
statutory deadlines begin to counting down. All documents and forms must
be on file within 15 days, including a complete list of creditors in
acceptable computer format or mailing matrix template. The official petition
incorporates questions and schedules which include a broad range of financial
disclosures required by the U.S. Code, and further, the petition must be
sworn under oath. The petition is the core document upon which all
relief may be granted.
