The automatic stay of liens occurs by operation of law, as if a curtain is drawn between
the debtor's estate and all creditors. As a federal injunction against creditors,
Chapter 13 bankruptcy stops foreclosures, prevents judgments in law suits, even to
the extent of prohibiting creditors from calling the debtor when represented by a Chapter 13
bankruptcy lawyer.
Immediately, upon filing, the automatic stay goes into effect
regardless of actual notice to creditors. Any action taken after filing
for collection of debts or liquidation of collateral becomes void, and
as such, reversible because unauthorized actions against debtors are
strictly prohibited by law.
