At present, according to proclamation by the North Carolina Homestead Exemption Act, an individual may claim up top $10,000 equity exempt from judgments, attachment, or execution of liens, subject to several well ingrained exceptions. North Carolina homestead exemption law allows spouses to double the amount, up to $20,000. The exceptions pertain to purchase liens, tax liens, and mechanics liens. these liens may however be defeated when filing a plan for repayment under Chapter 13 bankruptcy provisions.
