Hawaii Homestead Exemption Property
Pursuant to the legislative enactment of the Hawaii Homestead Exemption Act,
state residents are entitled to $20,000 if less than 65 years old, or up
to $30,000 exempt property if 65 or older, limited further to no more
than one acre of land. Hawaii homestead exemption law also includes
improvements, landscaping, attachments, and water rights (if any) that
remain un-severed from real property. The value limitation is calculated
based on equity, and remains subject to purchase money security
interests, mechanics liens, and tax liens imposed by federal, state or
local authorities. The Hawaii homestead exemption form may be
used as some evidence of value, as well as tax appraisals prepared by
local authorities.
